Record Validation for Duplicates: General Information

Duplicate records across your leads, contacts, customers, vendors, and business accounts can create data-quality issues that slow down your sales, marketing, and financial processes. Duplicates may lead to repeated customer communication, diminished productivity for your teams, and inaccurate reporting. Duplication is more likely when records are created manually, imported in bulk, or generated by extending an existing business account.

The following sections provide details you can use to ensure that the system is configured properly for validating lead, contact, and business account records for duplicates. This information will also help you understand (and change, if needed) the settings that affect the workflow of validating duplicate records.

Record Validation for Duplicates: Merging of Duplicate Records

Suppose that you’ve performed duplicate validation for a record and at least one duplicate record has been found. Each duplicate record is listed in the Records for Merging table on the Duplicates tab of one of these forms:

Record Validation for Duplicates: Association of Leads and Contacts

When you have performed duplicate validation for an individual lead or contact, or a group of leads or contacts, you can associate a lead with a duplicate contact, or a contact with a duplicate lead as described in the following sections.
